| Elvis Presley didn't choose a Guild F-50 for nothing! (he owned a '74 model, 2 years before this one) The Guild F50 Jumbo flat top is the top of the Guild tree, and obviously built to take on the Gibson J-200 head on. It's big, it's showy, it's blonde and it's American. This beautiful vintage Guild sports all the bells a whistles you'd expect from a top shelf Guild - gold-plated Guild tuners (by Schaller), solid Spruce top, stunning Maple back and sides, Ebony fretboard with genuine mother-of-pearl inlays with Abalone 'V' inserts and stunning multiple inlaid binding on the fretboard. The Maple on the back and sides of this guitar is beautifully figured - the pictures above and in the 'more pictures' link below can only hint at the depth of the figuring. The previous owner (an award-winning Australian Country performer) had the guitar professionally fitted with a removable L.R. Baggs M1 active pickup, which in his experience was the ultimate pickup for live performances. While they are an under-string pickup, the sound is incredibly natural and woody, without the harsh 'quack' and tizz of many under-saddle pickups. You could easily remove this from the soundhole if you so chose, but I have left it in place, as I think it suits the guitar perfectly, both sonically and visually, and makes the guitar extremely usable for the performing musician who wants a real classy vintage made-in-the-USA guitar on stage! The neck is straight, and the action low. This is a robustly-built, issue-free guitar. There is some play wear on the back of the neck, and some general minor worming and chipping to the finish from normal handling and playing, but this has been a much-loved and well cared-for guitar.
