| I love this bass! I'd previously imported from Japan a very rare special-order 1990 fretless hollow Fender® Japan Precision Bass®, which I'd intended to use for some time myself, but which I got to gig just once before it was snapped up by a Jazz musician and recording artist. He loves that bass as much as I did, and reports enthusiastically that it is the closest sound he has ever been able to get to a true amplified acoustic upright. But now I have brought in from Japan this truly wonderful Greco acoustic/electric bass, with similar construction and identical electronics to the Fender bass - because it's from the same highly-regarded Fujigengakki factory! In the late 1980s Greco moved away from the copies they had been famous for (they did about the best of the 'lawsuit' copies) and started designs of their own, and this Greco SAC-100FL (FL for fretless) is a fantastic example of that. Body is solid 1-piece mahogany, carved hollow (yes, the whole body is carved and shaped from ONE glorious piece of resonant mahogany!), with a laminated flame maple top and maple centre-block (not unlike a Gibson® ES-335®). The neck is also laminated maple with a rosewood fingerboard. Serial number of 0 8769 indicates a build either in 1990 or 1980. With the design of the bass, I'm guessing 1990. Flawless workmanship, fantastic timbers, and high-quality hardware add up to a beautiful looking, sounding and playing bass. The 6-layer binding around the edge of the top is a really nice touch, imparting a real vintage flavour to the bass. The bass is almost flawless, with only a hairline crack in the clear coat in the corner of the neck pocket (a very common occurrence with almost all guitars and basses with a bolt-on neck) and a slight mark on the back (right, lower bout - about half way between the string-through ferrules and the edge of the body), both of which can be seen (just!) in the detail photographs. Both these marks are very minor, but prevent the bass from being a true 10/10. It is, however, a very easy 9.5/10! It will not fit into a standard Fender®-sized case, as the bass bout is larger than that of a Fender® bass. Sold to Will
