The Gretsch 7605 and 7606 (different finishes - the 7605 was Natural; see a '76 we sold previously) were a direct attempt by Gretsch to take on the venerable Fender® Precision Bass®, but it was probably too late for Gretsch, who had earned themselves a reputation for building 'quaint' basses, mainly hollowbody and short-scale. The model only ran between 1975 and 1979.

However, for those after an extremely capable bass with just that bit of different character, the 7605/7606 models have been a well-kept secret. This one is a particular gem, as the ageing original pickup (now in the case pocket if a future owner ever wants to re-instate it) has been replaced with a TV Jones Thundertron. Absolute gobsmacking sound!

Made early in the production run in October 1975 (serial number 10.5103), this rare Gretsch 7606 Broadkaster bass comes with its original tolex hard-shell case. Pots are the original CTS units with 44th week 1974 date stamp.

There are some play marks to the body and neck, but this bass is in very good condition, and plays like butter. The action is very, very nice. Check out the detailed photos in the 'more pictures' link below to fully appreciate this vintage Gretsch bass.

Its all-maple construction (with a slim centre-strip of mahogany on the neck) finished in a dark Mahogany-tint 'sunburst', and its white scratchplate (which is yellowing subtlely with age) gives it a striking appearance, as well as a bit of weight, at bang on 5kg. It sounds as good as it looks, too, with its full scale length of 34" and that lovely TV Jones Thundertron.

This is truly a great bass for both the player and the collector.

Comments from the new owner; "It is beautiful. The action has that beautiful bounce. I can't put it down. I play it before work and from the time I get home until bed. I'm liking the action more than my 68 Pbass. In fact, it may have the sweetest action of all my basses and considering all the others have nice action that says a lot. Thanks again."
